The ILO and the Global March Against Child Labour (Global March) will be holding a joint event during the 107th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva to mark the World Day Against Child Labour and the 20th anniversary of the Global March.

A panel discussion, focussing on hazardous child labour and moderated by BBC journalist, Nomia Iqbal, will take place at 13:00 on 4 June 2018 at the Palais des Nations (Room XVII).

Introductory remarks will be made by the ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder, and Nobel Peace Laureate, Kailash Satyarthi.

This will be followed by a discussion involving the following panellists:

Closing remarks will be made by former ILO Executive Director, Kari Tapiola, about the 1998 ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and its links with child labour.

Refreshments and a book signing of “The teeth of the ILO”, by K. Tapiola will follow the event.

On the evening of 4 June, the Global March will host an advance screening at the ILO Cinema of the documentary film “KAILASH”, winner of the Sundance film festival grand jury prize. The film tells the story of children in child labour and the struggle to assure their rights. The screening will start promptly at 18:00 followed by a Q&A, and a reception at 19:45.

UN Geneva correspondents as well as ILC-accredited journalists are welcome to attend the events.

Globally

Numerous events will also be taking place around the world on and around 12 June in support of the World Day Against Child Labour. This year, the World Day shines a spotlight on the need to end child labour and improve the safety and health of young workers for a “Generation Safe & Healthy.”
